AUTOS: Mazzanti Reveals All-New Sports Car

AUTOS: Mazzanti Reveals All-New Sports Car

The lightweight mid-engine exotic powered by a 700-horsepower V8 is set to debut in April by the boutique Italian automaker.

From the creator of the V12-powered Vulca S and the deliciously retro Antas V8 GT comes a brand-new sports car, the Evantra V8.

The company behind the Evantra V8 is Mazzanti, an Italian coachbuilder formerly known as Faralli and Mazzanti, and we should be seeing it live for the first time at the 2013 Top Marques Monaco in April.

The aerodynamic body was designed in collaboration with motorsports and engineering firm YSIM. (Photo: Mazzanti) We first caught wind of the Evantra V8 in early 2011 back when it was called the Mugello. At the time, it was touted as the first sports car to hail from Mazzanti with a mid-engine layout.

A year later, the sports car emerged as the Evantra, and now it was promised to come with a flat-six engine delivering upwards of 600 horsepower.

Now Mazzanti has confirmed the final specifications for the Evantra V8, which as its name suggests will come with a V8 engine instead of the promised flat-six. Mazzanti boasts that the Evantra V8?s engine is an aluminum unit displacing seven liters and delivering 701 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque.

The engine benefits from dry-sump lubrication as well as valves and connecting rods made from titanium, and it should be able to accelerate the Evantra V8 from 0-60 mph in around three seconds and see a top speed of 217 mph. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a paddle-shifted, six-speed sequential gearbox.

The Elantra V8 will come as a well-equipped luxury car that can be tailored to the buyers? tastes. (Photo: Mazzanti) The Evantra V8 also gets a chrome-molybdenum chassis and aerodynamic body designed in collaboration with motorsports and engineering firm YSIM. Thanks to lightweight construction (the customer has the choice of a carbon-fiber or aluminum body), the overall weight of the car should be no more than 2,900 pounds, the company says.

Other performance specs include 20-inch OZ wheels shod with Continental tires, Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston units in the rear, optional carbon-ceramic discs, and electronic adjustment of the engine and gearbox with settings ranging from ?Strada? (street) to ?Corsa? (track).

Inside, Mazzanti promises full luxury with leather and carbon-fiber trim available. Mazzanti likes to stress that almost every aspect of the car can be personalized, especially the interior. One key feature is the ceiling-mounted starter button, which is the same design found in the original Antas V8.
