Raising Thyroid Awareness, One Voice at a Time | Stacey Thureen

Logo4National Thyroid Awareness Month is well underway, and it continues to be a privilege to help educate others about thyroid disease.

In 2011 I was given the opportunity to share publicly about my thyroid journey. At the time of my diagnosis, I was freelance producing for a quarterly health and lifestyle television show in Boston. Several tests indicated that there was an inch size growth on the left side of her thyroid, and it needed to be removed. I pitched to the production team that I was willing to have my surgery filmed and do a segment on thyroid health. In September of 2011 the?TV segment?aired on?Better Living with Liz Walker?and it publicly portrayed the diagnosis, treatment, and acceptance of the?thyroid autoimmune?condition I now have.

During the time of the diagnosis and treatment my husband and I lost several family members in a short period of time. Our faith in God is what got us through that painful season of loss, grief and healing.

In 2012 I learned about the importance of good thyroid health during pregnancy and postpartum, which I have written about for autoimmunemom.com.

It has been such a blessing to hear from people about their thyroid experiences, as well. Some of which I will be highlighting throughout this month on Examiner.com.

In the days ahead I will speak more about the importance of thyroid awareness. I?m excited to be talking once again with Jordan Rich on his national radio show Friday, Jan. 11 into Saturday, Jan. 12. You can tune in online or if you?re in the Boston area go to 1030 AM on the radio dial.

Then on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. EST, I?ll be on eFitFamily Radio. I spoke on eFitFamily?two months ago and I?m excited to talk with fitness guru and host Laura London.

Finally, I want to say a special thank you to WBZ-TV and their 5 p.m. producer for airing some video about thyroid awareness month in their health news block on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Thanks again for spreading this message!

If you think you might be dealing with a thyroid issue, or someone you know has one, and you want to learn more please visit thyroidawareness.com.

How are you helping to share the message of thyroid awareness, or simply the importance of good overall health this New Year? What steps are you taking to make this possible?
